Job Description – Lifeguard

Responsible for performing lifeguard duties, enforcing Club Rules, and monitoring daily pool and facility operations. Will provide emergency response when appropriate and document such events in a timely manner. Some customer service interactions are possible.

Minimum Current Certification Qualifications:   

American Red Cross Lifeguarding – must be renewed every 2 years.

First Aid/CPR/AED – must be renewed every 2 years.

Reimbursement of certification costs up to $50.00 is available to new and returning guards with receipt of completion or renewal for the current year and after completion of at least 5 lifeguard shifts at LRCC.  Print & submit the Expense Report Form (found HERE) to LRCC Treasurer. Make a copy of your receipt & form.

Additional Knowledge and Skills:  

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of the facility: rules, policies, and procedures
  • Leadership qualities and calm, respectful demeanor
  • Customer Service experience for positive interactions with club members and guests

General Duties

  • Work all scheduled shifts, changes MUST be approved by Lifeguard Manager
  • Responsible for the safety of all patrons; enforce all policies, rules, and regulations
  • Check party reservations and required guest list and clean up checklist
  • Assist in general care & cleaning of facility & maintenance/minor repair of equipment
  • Inspect the facility daily and immediately report unsafe conditions to the head lifeguard, office staff or Director of Facilities.
  • Assists in maintaining records, reports, and information regarding the following: incidents or accidents, water chemistry, patron attendance, member inquires
  • Attend scheduled 1 hour lifeguard meetings with pay
  • Responsible to the Head Lifeguard, the Lifeguard Manager and the LRCC Board
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Head Lifeguard, Lifeguard Manager or LRCC board
  • Responsible for finding your own substitute if unable to work your scheduled shift. Keep in mind that 2 first year guards cannot work the same shift without authorization from the Lifeguard Manager. Use the Lifeguard Manager for finding subs only in cases of extreme emergency. Both parties must confirm the switch through email and initialing the schedule.

Salary Information:  

  • Minimum hourly pay rate: $16.00/hr for first year lifeguard (scalable based on years of service &/or job performance)
  • Rainy Day Pay: if your shift is canceled due to weather, you will be paid for 2 hours
  • Party Guard pay rates = Base pay + $1/hr
  • Federal Holiday (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) pay = Base Pay x 1.5

Uniforms:

Lifeguard logo uniforms are required to be worn when on duty. It is your responsibility to purchase items you need from your choice of vendor.

Required Uniform Items:  Lifeguard LOGO Suits, Trunks or Board Shorts (red, white or black) AND Whistle & Lanyard

Optional Uniform Items:  Lifeguard LOGO Sweatshirt, T-Shirt, Hat or Visor (red, white or black)

Three Strikes Policy:

To ensure lifeguards are taking their jobs seriously and that LRCC is hiring lifeguards who are serious about their job responsibilities, LRCC has a 3 strikes policy. 

THREE STRIKES = TERMINATION.

Each of the following will result in one strike & will be recorded as a separate incident:

  • using cell phone or texting while on guard duty (save for your break time)
  • showing up late without notifying the lifeguard manager with verbal, email, or text confirmation
  • failure to notify lifeguard manager of incidents at the pool and failure to log incidents in incident binder
  • failure to wear a Lifeguard LOGO uniform
  • failure to have lifeguard chairs at opposite sides of pool
  • failure to get up and walk around the pool at regular intervals

GROUNDS FOR AUTOMATIC TERMINATION:

  • Failure to show up for a shift without advance authorization from the Lifeguard Manager/Scheduler
  • Leaving early without notifying and receiving verbal, email, or text confirmation from the Lifeguard Manager/Schedule
  • Falsifying time sheet for yourself or others
  • Arriving to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs
